INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Revolution Café Rio race team. We’re a group of non-elitist, level-headed, fun, yet competitive road bike racers and riders that have a passion for cycling and the great things it brings to our lives.
The Revolution Café Rio Racing team is managed by Shift Gear Sports LLC, which is not legally affiliated with Revolution Bicycles or any of the sponsors. Team managers are Aaron Rennert, Elliott Smith, Justin Wilson and Curt Doman. We each have roles and responsibilities in managing the team and will do our best to work in an efficient, responsible, professional manner. I know, many of you who know the four of us are wondering how any of those words could possibly apply to us – but like we said, we’ll do our best.
Our goal is to foster a team environment that promotes learning, advancing and achieving the highest potential in the sport. We as team managers and the current members of the team participate in this hobby (OK – addiction for some) on various levels for fun and enjoyment, not for drama or headaches. We’re looking for teammates who share our goals.
So here’s the general layout for the team along with some basic rules and responsibilities for team membership:
TEAM MEMBERSHIP COST & BENEFITS
Membership:
-
Cost - $50, and the purchase of a team jersey. Membership fee includes the following:
-
A Revolution Race Team hat, t-shirt, socks, water bottle, and nylon cinch bag to hold all your loot and smelly clothes after the race.
-
Your contribution will also cover team expenses such as team socials, race wrench support, team fees to USA cycling and the UCA, etc.
-

The Revolution shop will also stock some of the product described above.
Benefits:
-
During the race season, each rider who participates in 10 events will get a $20 Café Rio gift card. If you complete 15 events, you’ll get $75 cash, and 25 events gets you an additional $100 cash. If you race any more than that, we’ll pay for your marriage counseling. This gift card and cash reward program applies to all members who pay the Team membership fee and order their jersey in the first order. If the team has money left at the end of the season, we will consider rewarding those who signed up after.
-
Sweet prizes from our sponsors for outstanding performances, extraordinary displays of teamwork, and other notable efforts.
-
15% off all bikes, parts, accessories, and labor at the shop.
-
Periodic deep discounts from various Revolution vendors such as Edge, Continental, Hammer Nutrition, LAS Helmets & Fizik. These will be announced via email as they occur throughout the season.
-
Full wrench support by top Revolution mechanics at many road races, and most Intermountain Cup mtb races. You’ll have opportunity to cross over and race on the dirt with the Revolution mtb team, which is one of the best mtb race teams in the State! We also race cyclocross. Revolution will have a strong presence and support in road, mtb, and cx. We also encourage participation as a Revolution racer in triathlons, charity rides, centuries and anything else that requires pedaling.
MEMBERSHIP & BENEFITS NOTES
-
While there are plenty of great discounts and benefits for being part of the Team, you’ll notice that we’re not offering a lot of up-front “free” product for joining. We are loved by our sponsors, but from a business perspective, we are pretty much mobile advertising for them. The more we race, the more we’ll need to be out training, and the more exposure we’ll bring to our sponsors. That’s why we’re using sponsorship dollars to reward those who are out representing.
-
Shop Discounts referenced above are extended to members of the Team who have either signed up or renewed their membership with Revolution Café Rio Racing.
-
Program pricing and discounts are for items purchased for your use and your bike. It is valid from the sign up/renewal date through December 31st. As long as you continue to renew your Team membership and remain in good standing, you will continue to receive Team benefits.
-
The races eligible to receive the Café Rio gift card and cash awards may include: Weekend road races, weekday crit series races, centuries, mountain bike, downhill, cyclocross, bmx and triathlon events. Any multi-day event counts as one race (e.g. road or MTB stage races, 24 hour events). Basically, any competitive biking related race event that requires wheels and pedals and you represent Revolution Café Rio, you get credit. Team members who wish to receive this reimbursement are responsible for sending appropriate verification of races at the appropriate race benchmarks (10, 15 and 25 events). Please do not send verification after every race.
-
The benefits and terms offered above are for those who sign up for the Revolution Café Rio road team. If you are only signed up for the Revolution mountain bike team, these benefits don’t apply.
TEAM RULES, REGULATIONS & INFO
-
Maintenance & Repairs. As indicated, you will receive a 15% discount off repairs and maintenance. Some repair items are billed hourly; others are billed on a per job basis. Please contact the shop to inquire about specific repairs and to receive a quote. The shop will do their best to put the racers (those training daily and racing 1-2x per week) as top priority and turn around repairs as quickly as possible, BUT, it is up to you to schedule your repair or maintenance session with the shop in advance. If you plan accordingly, you can still make it so you are not without your beloved machine overnight. Please contact the shop for details about scheduling.
-
Obey The Law & Be Cool. As you train or race in the Revolution Café Rio kits, you are representing the shop and our other excellent sponsors. Without them, the Team would not exist. Team management and our sponsors will not tolerat e irresponsible or rude riding, racing or communication. Be courteous, ride safe, wave and be friendly to other cyclists. Bottom line here – don’t be a weenie, and control your road rage. If you can’t help yourself and you must be a weenie by popping off to motorists, go find another team. Additionally, any member found using explicit language or inappropriate behavior toward any other participant, spectator, judge, referee, race official, promoter, child, peloton member or team member will be invited to find another team. Lastly, if any member of the Team is disrespectful to any employee or owner of Revolution Bicycles or to any employee of our sponsors, you will immediately be kicked off the Team…at Team management’s discretion…no questions asked.
-
Participation. As indicated above, there is financial incentive to participate in races. Beyond that, we encourage you to actively participate in group training rides and race events as much as you can with your schedule to foster team unity and camaraderie. We understand that life is busy and sometimes you can’t make it to as many weekday or weekend races as you would like. You have to prioritize and find balance. However, the shop, sponsors and the Team are willing to make a commitment to you, and we expect you to reciprocate the commitment by participating at Team events and being loyal to the shop. Also, the club is required to sponsor a race event each season. Team members will be expected to volunteer time to help organize and administer this race event.
-
Team Work. This is an interesting topic in amateur cycling. Just a reminder here, we are amateurs, not professionals getting paid to ride. Though teamwork is still present in the amateur world, it doesn’t work the same as a paid domestique in the professional ranks. We encourage balanced teamwork. Selfish riding isn’t cool, so share the love and take turns racing for each other in your respective category. More comment and training on this topic to come throughout the season.
-
Other Information.
• All Team members are responsible for their own maintenance and inspection of equipment, all expenses incurred by and for participation in cycling, racing or travel except where specified under sponsorship or other circumstances at the discretion of Team management.
• A Team roster will be available on the Team website to all members with names, addresses, phone numbers, current racing category and primary sport (road, mtn, dh, tri, bmx, cx, etc.). If you do not want your information to be published on this list, please notify Team management. We respect your privacy. The purpose of the list is to facilitate communication for group rides, carpooling to races, etc.
• We are working on a graphic wrap for our Team trailer that will likely be at most events, staffed with wrench support for the day. The Team fee and sponsorship dollars go toward having this luxury available.
• We are also working on having a Team photographer who will have a website to view pictures from select races. Team members can purchase prints, much like the Zazoosh format. However, the focus will be on Revolution Café Rio Racing members at the races and Team members will get special pricing on the prints. The photographer will also take a group photo which will be available for purchase. Details on this topic to follow.
• Our co-title sponsor, Café Rio, will cater a Team event during the season. We’re not sure if this event will be in the spring or fall, but it will be cool. We’ll keep you posted.
We are looking forward to a fun, competitive year. Many thanks to Revolution Bicycles and our great sponsors for making this possible and to you for your interest in joining the Team! Feel free to forward this information packet to anyone you think might be interested in joining the Team and please contact any member of Team management or the shop with questions.
See you on the road or trail,
